Spiking doesn't work in PvE well enough to run it...
Most monsters can live through a ranger spike pretty easily, especially when you start hitting thelevel 24/28 mobs...
If you wanna get into a group, barrage/interrupt and trapping is the way to go..
If you wanna screw around with a few guildies, fix up any build you think will work and who knows? Maybe you'll find a new touch ranger or whatnot

Everyone here forgot about the BUNNY THUMPER! That builds a r/w with a hammer(sometimes with a pet), can be verstital and has lots of heavy dmg also can interrupt people like mad. Good dmg hammers are ez to find, hell in pre ascalon there is a 13-20 war hammer u can have the crafter craft for you. The quests spam out hammers too so its a good build for those. Its also good at healing itself (troll/healing sig). This build i would recommend to rangers who want to be tanks. Its dmg is more spammable then a normal warriors, so much that 1 bunny thumper took on a guild lord alone and won.

I have 4 builds that I use. I switch depending on what the mission or my team needs.
I mostly run a Beast Master. I trap for UW runs. I have a build for interrupt and one that is just bow attacks.
The best part about rangers is their flexibility.

Yup. And if you haven't tried running as a vampire (touch ranger) in PvE, you really should. The damage output and lack of counters is just *sick.*

degenarator.
Poison arrow+kindle arrows
bleeding
rest of your own build.
have melandru arrows (esy to cap) and get poison bite for your pet.
or just run apply poison and hunters shot
if you go as R/Me (which is a great secondary for ranger) throw a conjure phantasm in there...
when i igo R/N i bring blood ritual, becuse rangers are suposed to spend most of the time in the back, so that helps the poor monk who is forced to heal alone because sister Tai is just runing around.
this tactic is very efficient against bosses that heal self. if there is a big mob and the monk boss is healing the other monsters, use it on the monk and he will concentrate on self healiing and will stop healing the other mobs, or maby will heal them MUCH less, so your patry will just kill them much faster.. and of curse when every monster exept the boss is dead, you degenarating the boss help alot
good for teams that ALRERADY do alot of damage and couldnt cair less if you are barraging or juts picking in your nose.
i run this build alot and its efficient for team support. oviously pugs are asking me to take barrage and stuff, but seriously, if barrage is not stacked with more barrage rangers, its pretty useless in a team, becuse it will never do as much damage as a meteor shower or 10 minions...

How about a smiting ranger/monk with signets and smites (the smite attacks get reduced by Expertise just like necro touch attacks - notice the energy costs). You have the rangers armor rather than the monks so have better protection and could bring a stance along if desired.
Ranger Monk Smiter
Expertise: 15 (11+4)
Wilderness Survival: 7 (6+1)
Smiting Prayers: 12
- Signet of Judgment [Elite] (Smiting Prayers)
Target foe is knocked down. That foe and all adjacent foes take 63 holy damage.
Energy:0 Cast:2 Recharge:25
- Bane Signet (Smiting Prayers)
Target foe takes 50 holy damage. If that foe was attacking, he is knocked down.
Energy:0 Cast:2 Recharge:25
- Holy Strike (Smiting Prayers)
Touched target foe takes 46 holy damage. If knocked down, your target takes an additional 46 holy damage.
Energy:2 Cast:0.75 Recharge:8
- Stonesoul Strike (Smiting Prayers)
Touched target foe takes 46 holy damage. If knocked down, your target takes an additional 46 holy damage.
Energy:2 Cast:0.75 Recharge:8
- Smite (Smiting Prayers)
This attack deals 46 Holy damage. If attacking, your target takes an additional 30 Holy damage.
Energy:4 Cast:1 Recharge:10
- Banish (Smiting Prayers)
Target foe takes 49 holy damage.
Energy:5 Cast:1 Recharge:10
- Troll Unguent (Wilderness Survival)
For 10 seconds, you gain Health regeneration +6.
Energy:2 Cast:3 Recharge:10
- Resurrect (Monk other)
Resurrect target party member. Target party member is returned to life with 25% Health and zero Energy.
Energy:10 Cast:6 Recharge:5
Equip a smiting staff with +energy and +armor. Combine the knockdowns from the signets with the touch attacks for double damage. You could eliminate some smites and include a pet if desired.
Optional skills:
- Whirling Defense (Expertise)
For 20 seconds, you have 75% chance to "block" attacks. Whenever you block a projectile in this way, adjacent foes take 11 piercing damage.
Energy:4 Cast:0 Recharge:60
- Symbol of Wrath (Smiting Prayers)
For 5 seconds, foes adjacent to the location in which the Spell was cast take 27 holy damage each second.
Energy:5 Cast:2 Recharge:30
- Smite Hex (Smiting Prayers)
Remove a Hex from target ally. If a Hex is removed, foes in the area suffer 70 damage.
Energy:5 Cast:1 Recharge:15
- Retribution (Smiting Prayers)
While you maintain this Enchantment, whenever target ally takes attack damage, this Spell deals 33% of the damage back to the source (maximum 17 damage).
Energy:10 Cast:2 Recharge:0
- Shield of Judgment [Elite] (Smiting Prayers)
For 18 seconds, anyone striking target ally with an attack is knocked down and suffers 41 damage.
Energy:15 Cast:1 Recharge:45

Alternately, you could do it this way (this is the reverse of a build I run for giggles when I go E/R). I'm doing this off the top of my head, so the skill numbers aren't precise.
Ranger/Elementalist
Fire Magic 12
Marksmanship 7-8 (use a low req bow with a Firey Bow String)
Wilderness Survival 7-8
Split the rest however you like in Beast Mastery & Expertise
Poison Arrow {E}
Distracting Shot
Mark of Rodgort
Conjure Flame
Comfort Animal
Charm Animal
Troll Unguent
Res Sig
I bring the pet along to distract my target and for some extra DPS, but the soul of the build is using Mark of Rodgort on your target. If you're not familiar with the skill, it sets them on fire (-7 degen) when they are struck for fire damage. So, you are hitting them with fire damage from your Firey Bow, with addtional fire damage from Conjure Flame. *plus* you hit them with Poison Arrow every few shots, providing another -4 degen. So they're poisoned and on fire for -11 arrows of degen as long as you feel like concentrating on them. Plus you have Distracting Shot to stop key skills.
Obviously this won't be terribly effective in PvP unless you are facing extremely stupid players. But it's great in PvE.
They're so pretty when they're on fire. *gleam*

at first i doubted you due to my lack of knowledge in monk skills (i assumed they were spells). by the looks of it, it looks like a great build and i'll be sure to try this for kicks and giggles.
until you have enough skills for a focused build, distracting shot and savage shot are both great bring alongs. penetrating attack, troll unguent, whirling defense, and dual shot are pretty good skills too that should be available relatively early. (at least in tryia, i dont know about cantha)

I just tried the build, if you're going to be in tank range to use smite, then you're gonna need a better heal than +6 troll unguent...
Necro Touch > Monk Touch
65 dps and 65 healing easily outshines the monk touch damage simply because of the healing factor and being able to plague touch conditions off, not to mention cycling speed...
But if you're determined to use this build, I suggest letting your monks know you're going to take a lotta heat...
Great for farming those krytan undead I guess...if you can find a way to keep yourself alive

Broadhead Arrow {E} + Apply Poison + Epidemic
(Throw Dirt + Epidemic)
This combo rocks in PVE/Cantha. It´s fun and makes life so much easier for your Group.

I've had a lot of success with this:
Hunter's Shot
Savage Shot
Apply Poison
Throw Dirt (or cap sig)
Flame Trap
Escape {E}
Troll Unguent
Rez
Basically, use Escape, run into a mob, drop a trap, run back out and poison everyone you can. Hunters shot works great on hitting fleeing enemies that are running from the AoE effect of flame trap. Interup as needed. Strong defense and agility make this build great for surviving and multiple ways of causing degen make it possible to do plenty of damage without having to stand around firing your bow all day. All in all a very mobile degen/inerupt build.
